Boston Gateway Marina

Boston, another fine destination in the greater Wash is for now at least, a conditional option in that in the tidal river there are no all afloat moorings for the visitor. In fact, no boat should proceed up the River Witham without being sure where they will secure. The exception – and it is an appealing one – is mooring above the Grand Sluice; the sea lock. But to do this, the visitor needs to take into account air draft restrictions, not only at the lock but through the bridges below it. The advised maximum air draft at the sluice is 2.74m but there can be more according to river level.

Once through, the fine facilities at Boston Gateway Marina are there to enjoy and it is but a short walk back onto the town. But having reached this far, why not cruise on to Lincoln? For those with the right  boats, one beauty of the Wash ports is the inland waterway access and the River Witham is no exception.
